Charis, is a work by Adam Fearon which will be installed in Studio 6 at Temple Bar Gallery & Studios for the duration of the festival. The work is one outcome of a two year period of research undertaken by the artist in collaboration with the actor Niamh McCann.

The work consists of two overlapping elements: a sculpture made in response to the space at TBG&S onto which is projected the documentation of a series of vignettes filmed in the artist’s studio in Frankfurt.

In these vignettes the actor’s body becomes a kind of tool for language, in which the actor and her voice become another kind of material, akin to the wood, plastic and small sculptures lying around the studio, used to by the artist to create a series of poetic compositions that refuse direct speech or a finished product.

This work is a co-commission by Live Collision and Temple Bar Gallery & Studios, originally it was initiated as part of Live Collision’s International Artist Residency (France, 2012) and incarnations of Adam’s work have been supported throughout Live Collision International Festival since 2009 with previous work Orchid (2011) and Present (Working Conditions) (2013).
