Festival Overview:
Founded in 2009 by Lynnette Moran, Live Collision is Ireland’s first festival dedicated to Live Art practice. Over the years, it has carved a unique space for interdisciplinary live work that is distinct from traditional performance art, particularly work derived from visual arts practice. At its core, Live Collision is committed to presenting work that prioritizes the concept of “liveness”—experiences that occur in the moment, in direct interaction with an audience, and within specific contexts of place and time.
Artistic Vision:
Live Collision is a festival of Live Art that celebrates the intersection of art and social change. We prioritize work that explores critical issues of class, race, migration, mental health, gender, sexuality, access/disability, sustainability, democracy, and equality. Our focus is not on ‘issue-based’ work but rather on work that reflects the complexity of intersectionality and challenges societal norms, conventions, and accepted expectations. By pushing boundaries, we aim to create a festival environment that amplifies new perspectives, fosters collective energy, and generates opportunities for transformation through artistic expression.
Live Collision Curatorial Policy:
As a curated festival, Live Collision does not operate through an open call for proposals. Instead, programming decisions are driven by conversations led by the founding festival director, Lynnette Moran, in collaboration with artists, festival community members, and colleagues both locally and internationally. These discussions are framed through our intentional use of the ‘salon’ model—a platform for asking questions, generating dialogue, and listening with intent. This curatorial practice aims to build a shared understanding of the artists, works, and ideas that drive the festival.
Live Collision’s curatorial policy exists to ensure transparency in our programming process for artists, audiences, and stakeholders. The festival’s curatorial approach is rooted in a commitment to diversity, innovation, and inclusivity. It is designed to reflect our ethos of fostering strong relationships and creating dynamic spaces for artistic expression, participation, and dialogue.
